Your frequently asked questions
where are you based?

We are in the South Downs, a few minutes from Newhaven and less than 10 minutes from Lewes. The exact location will be shared once a booking is made.

how ‘wild’ is it?

We are in a rural location which comes with all the expected wildlife of the area - expect pheasants, creepy crawlies, nesting birds, there is long grass so ticks may be present - please stick to the paths where possible. Ground will be uneven in places we recommend sensible footwear and clothing, waterproofs and wellies on rainy days!

what does off-grid exactly mean?

We have supply of water but we do not use or depend on public utilities such as the supply of electricity, gas or waste disposal. We have a small solar power set up for emergency charge of mobile phones and we use composting toilets. We will provide any shower, washing up or cleaning products as our rudimentary drainage system requires no chemicals.

what should I bring?

As much of the space is open to the elements, pack layers and waterproofs for rainy days and suncream for warmer days! A bottle of water. Comfortable clothes suitable for yoga, cosy dry socks and sweats for Savasana, restorative postures and meditation.
If you plan to use the sauna and/or the cold plunge, please bring swimwear, some flip-flops (or equivalent) a towel or dry robe and a smaller towel to sit on in the sauna.

is clothing mandatory in the Sauna?

Yes :)

do you cater for food allergies?

Yes, we work with wonderful local companies and chefs, who can provide vegan, gluten free and vegetarian meals using locally sourced ingredients. Please specify any allergies when booking.

are there any contraindications to sauna bathing and cold therapies?

Yes. Individuals with cardiovascular conditions or problems (hypertension/hypotension), congestive heart failure, heart diseases, impaired coronary circulation, serious asthma, serious migraine, some auto immune conditions or those who are taking medications which might affect blood pressure should exercise extreme caution when exposed to prolonged heat. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory systems. If using a pacemaker or defibrillator, please discuss risks involved with your doctor. Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their doctor or a pharmacist for possible changes in the drug’s effect when the body is exposed to elevated temperatures. Some medications including diuretics, barbiturates, and beta-blockers and others may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Some over the counter drugs such as antihistamines may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.
Pregnant women should consult a physician before using the sauna because foetal damage can occur with a certain elevated body temperature.

If you have had a heart attack in the last 6 months please seek medical advice prior to using the sauna or ‘cold dip’.

If you have severe arterial disease please seek medical advice prior to using the sauna or ‘cold dip’.

An individual that has insensitivity to heat or cold should seek medical advice before entering the sauna or ‘cold dip’.
